Swim Lessons are available year-round at the Richard C. Geisinger Branch in Stuart.  We have lessons for every age and skill level from 6 months to 99 years old! 

Register for weekday or Saturday swim lessons . Our Jeff Ellis Certified Swim Instructors will progress your child through all levels! 

Swim Lesson Class Levels:

This stage introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatics environment. Parents MUST accompany their child in the water for this class. Swim diapers are required for children that are not potty trained. This swim curriculum is designed to get children COMFORTABLE in the water, they will NOT be learning how to independently swim in this class. However, they will be doing the basic movements such as kicking, scooping, floating, and holding their breath or blowing bubbles. They will also be getting comfortable with going under the water.

This swim curriculum is designed to get children COMFORTABLE in the water, they will NOT be learning how to independently swim in this class. However, they will be doing the basic movements on command such as kicking, scooping, floating, and holding their breath or blowing bubbles. The goal of the class is for the child to be comfortable with going underneath the water and doing the movements on their own while a parent is holding the child.

This stage is for young children to become more confident in the water by themselves. Parents do not accompany the child in the pool for this class. The goal of the class is to teach children the foundation of swimming such as blowing bubbles, bobbing, front and back floats, kicking and scooping, jumping in and returning to the wall, and safe entry and exit from the pool. 

In this stage children MUST be able to swim at least 10-12 years unassisted in order to attend this class. The goal of the class is to teach children breath control and freestyle as well as elementary backstroke and breaststroke. 

In this stage children MUST be able to swim 25 years unassisted in order to attend this class. The goal of the class is to teach children all 4 of the competitive swim strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. 

This stage is for older children that are beginners and do not know how to swim without assistance. The goal of the class is to teach the foundation of swimming such as blowing bubbles, bobbing, scooping, kicking, floating (on front and back), and safe entry and exit from the pool. 

In this stage children MUST be able to swim 25 years unassisted to attend this class. The goal of the class is to teach children breath control and freestyle as well as elementary backstroke and breaststroke.  

In this stage children MUST be able to swim 50 years consecutively in order to attend this class. The goal of the class is to teach children the techniques for the 4 competitive swimming stokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Children will also be taught how they can build their endurance to prepare for the Wahoo’s Swim Club. 

This class is very flexible and can have adults with a wide range of swimming ability; such as adults who have never swam before to adults who do swim but want to learn more about the stokes.

Free Swim Lessons

  • Health InsuranceSunshine Health and AmeriHealth Caritas Florida offer a swimming and water safety lesson benefit that will cover up to $200 each year per child for group or private lessons. To enroll, call their member services at 1-855-355-9800 (AmeriHealth) or 1-866-796-0530 (Sunshine Health) between April 1st through April 30th, enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. Once approved bring your authorization letter to our front desk to register for swim lessons. 
  • Cleveland Clinic Voucher: Ask your child’s doctor to sign a YMCA swim lesson voucher and bring it our front desk to register for a series of 6 to 8 group swim lessons. 
  • S.P.L.A.S.H. program: The Children’s Services Council of Martin County provides free swimming lessons for economically disadvantaged Martin County children between the ages of 6 months and 14 years of age. To qualify, Parent or Guardian must supply proof of residency in Martin County and income verification (i.e. proof of SNAP, Medicaid or free or reduced cost lunch eligibility.)   • YMCA Scholarship Fund: Our Y gives annual scholarships to provide all children and families in our community access to our programs and services regardless of their economic circumstances, click here to learn more and apply.  

Weather and Cancellation Policy

Pool closes for 30 minutes from the last lightning strike that is within a 10 mile radius.  All aquatics programs (including Swim Lessons and Water Aerobics) are cancelled and/or rescheduled when air temperature drops below 62 degrees F.  Be sure to have our App downloaded with push notification enabled to be the first to know of Swim Lesson Cancellations!

Pool closes entirely (including Lap Swim) when air temperature drops below 50 degrees F.  Be sure to email our Aquatics Director to be on the Lap Swim Email list.  Temperatures are monitored via the “Weather Channel App” set to the Y’s Stuart location.
