Hurricane Ian has left unprecedented flooding and destruction in its wake across Florida. Many YMCAs in the state sustained significant damage and are without power. Ys that are operational have become safe havens for the stranded and homeless—a place where families and individuals alike can find electricity, a hot shower, and a comforting environment.

The communities hit hardest by the hurricane are in the Fort Myers area, served by the YMCA of Southwest Florida. Despite their own hardships, the YMCA is focused squarely on meeting the needs of communities across the region, opening four of their available facilities to the community for showers, gathering spaces and charging stations; distributing food at two locations; and operating their Fort Myers branch as a disaster recovery location.

You can support the YMCA of Southwest Florida and their service to their communities by making a donation to the Florida Alliance’s Hurricane Ian Relief Fund. Every dollar we raise will go directly to YMCAs serving the communities in Florida hit hardest by this historic and devastating storm—and those Ys are working around the clock to reopen so they can do the same.

100% of all contributions will be used for recovery efforts; no administrative costs will be taken by Florida State Alliance of YMCAs.
